Learn Tunisian Crochet (OCT 1)

$85.00

Tunisian crochet is a type of crochet that holds multiple loops on the hook in a style similar to what is done in knitting. It differs from knitting in that it uses a crochet hook instead of knitting needles, but adopts some cross-over terminology. The result of this unique crochet style, is a fabric that is beautifully textured using a technique that combines the best of both knitting and crochet.

Enjoy a casual evening in our cozy classroom, where you’ll learn why Tunisian Crochet has become so popular among yarn crafters! You will receive personalized, hands-on help learning how to cast on and cast off, perform 3 popular Tunisian crochet stitches, and change yarn colours. You will also leave with all you need for your first beautiful Tunisian project – which happens to be an original pattern from the instructor herself!

*This class is best suited for those with foundational crochet skills that includes knowing how to slip knot, create foundation chains, slip stitch, and single crochet.

Workshop fee includes:

  • Personalized instruction
  • Resource package
  • Project pattern
  • Supplies and materials (2 skeins of beautiful Merino wool*, Interchangeable Tunisian Hook & Cord, stitch markers)

PLEASE REVIEW : Classes/Workshop Booking Policy (Below)

Advance payment is required for classes to ensure they are guaranteed to run.

Classes are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. Class registrations are processed through our website, so we can ensure that everyone gets a fair chance at the awesome class they’ve got their eye on.

If you need to cancel, please provide at least 48 hours notice. We will gladly offer equal credit towards another class or for products available through The Thoughtful Artisan. We know that ‘life happens’, so please contact us as soon as possible via email to communicate a cancellation. Please note, however, that specific credit arrangements need to be discussed over the phone or in person.

Cancellations occurring with less than 48 hours notice are not eligible for a credit. Our classes proceed based on enrolment. Last-minute cancellations have a negative impact on future class offerings, and also prevent us from offering the vacant spot to someone else who may be waiting in the wings.

If you need to miss a class that has more than one session, please let us know as soon as possible. Occasionally there are options for you to attend your missed class next time that class is offered (if the class is not full), and in some cases we may be able to offer a one-on-one appointment (for an additional fee) for you to make-up the class. However, please note that we do not guarantee that you will be able to make-up your class, especially if the class is being taught by a guest instructor.

If The Thoughtful Artisan ever has to cancel a class, we will contact you as soon as possible to make arrangements for re-booking or store credit in the form of a gift certificate. This situation occasionally arises when a class does not reach the minimum number of participants to cover the cost of offering the class (usually three students). Sometimes the class may have to be cancelled because the instructor has fallen ill or has a family emergency. We do our best to ensure all classes run as scheduled, but if a class must be cancelled, please rest assured the resolution will be handled quickly and professionally.

*Your online purchase serves as confirmation that you have read, understood, and agreed to the terms of our class booking policy.

SUMMER ROAD TRIP SHAWL KIT
by Caroline Sommerfeld

Each KIT includes the Pattern and the amount of Yarn required

The Summer Road Trip Shawl is a project that is perfect for taking along on your summer holiday, whether you are travelling on the road or enjoying a staycation in your backyard! This simple asymmetric bias shawl is fun to knit and takes advantage of assigned pooling to introduce some very enjoyable texture and colour that is easy to memorize. This shawl can be knit as either a one or two skein project and if you like you can add an additional optional pop of colour in your final border with a mini skein. This shawl shape is perfect for summer wear as the curve created by the simple shawl shaping hugs your shoulders and keeps you cozy on a cool evening.

Photos:  Sample photo is a one skein shawl worked in Juniper and has a border of Lodgepole Pine (not included as border mini is optional).

Gauge
24 sts and 32 rows in 10cm/4”. Gauge is not crucial for this project but significant differences may change the size of your shawl.

Materials

Ancient Arts Fibre Crafts Socknado (80% Fine Merino / 20% Nylon – 100gm/3.5oz, 350m/385yds). 1 (2) skeins.

Needle Size: One Circular needle size 3.5mm/US 4 24” (length according to preference) or size to achieve gauge.

Notions: tapestry/darning needle, stitch markers

Yarn Selection Hints:

This shawl is designed to be worked with assigned pooling. Assigned pooling requires a colourway that has a distinct (and preferably unique) colour section that stands out from the rest of the skein. For best results this colour section should strongly contrast with the rest of the skein. The length of the colour section should be at least 20cm (8”) but should take up no more than ¼ of the total circumference of the skein.

Socknado – 80% SW Fine Merino/20% Nylon
350 meters / 385 yards per 100 gram / 3.5 oz skein

A download link for the pattern PDF will be included inside the kit.
