Intuitive Malas

Frequently Asked Questions:

Q. What is a Mala?

Malas are more than just a fashionable necklace.

Traditionally, Malas were used to help focus the mind during meditation. The beads were used to assist the practice by helping keep count of mantras.

Today, the appeal of Malas has extended well beyond function. They have become intricate, mindful accessories. A Mala is:

  • a reflection of who we are, and who we want to be
  • a symbol of our everyday intentions
  • a conduit for desired energies, and
  • a subtle reminder to be present

Q. How do I choose a Mala that’s right for me?

In short, if you feel drawn to it, there is an excellent chance that the mala is exactly what you need in your present life.

Q. Can I order a custom Mala?

Yes! If you know what you’re looking for, but don’t see it among the items currently available, please use the custom order request form located on the home page.

Q. What is an “Intuitive Mala” design?

As a culture, we have learned to believe that rationality is what should prevail when making decisions. But what about that “inner voice”, that gut feeling, that little something instinctual from within that tells us how we feel beneath those layers of logic?

Many of us are uncomfortable with the idea of using our instincts as a guidance tool. We are embarrassed to say that we “just know” or “just feel” something. We’re reluctant to admit that we follow hunches, we mistrust the sometimes cryptic messages that our instincts send to us, and consequently we diminish our capacity to leverage the power of our own intuition when we need it most. Our discomfort with the idea of relying on our instincts is based on millennia of cultural prejudice, and minimizes the value it holds.

Suspending our disbelief about things that are not seen, heard, or felt by everyone equally, is a challenge for many. However, for those who are truly open to the idea of a heightened ability to connect with those senses, and the energetic messages they put forward, then perhaps you’d be willing to engage in the process of an intuitive Mala design.

An intuitive design comes from a reading. Through meditative practice, messages are seen, heard and felt. The energy revealed becomes the inspiration for the piece.

Since Malas are deeply personal, I understand that this process means putting a lot of trust in me; but that’s how it works. I have to trust in the process, too. If we hope to have an authentic design that will support what is intended for you at this time, we have to listen to and trust in that energy.

In keeping with that trust, I ask for very few details. Unless there is a style preference, or an element that you deeply desire to be part of the piece, we stick to a basic exchange of essential information and leave the rest up to the universe.

Once I’ve completed your reading, I prepare a detailed written account of the messages and insights intended for you. I connect that information to areas where support may be needed, and carefully research what stones are the best fit for those needs. I then source quality materials, and use them to design a one-of-kind Mala that is both aesthetically pleasing and deeply meaningful. Provided within the letter you receive is a list of the design elements, and the rationale behind why each was chosen.

Q. How much does an Intuitive Mala cost?

The actual cost of your Mala is largely determined by the materials required. Stones vary widely in price, but I do my very best not to exceed $150 for a single necklace.

The reading fee is an additional $95. For that investment, you will receive specifically sourced items, and a personalized letter outlining the descriptions, insights and affirmations related to your piece. To begin the process, a 50% deposit is required to confirm your commitment. The balance is due upon completion of your Mala.

Q. What is the turnaround time for an Intuitive Mala?

The timeline for completion may vary based on the availability of stones required. A reasonable estimate is 2 weeks (exclusive of shipping times).
